National Alpaca Day Print E-mail

Sunday 3rd May 2009 marks the first National Alpaca Day in New Zealand. To celebrate this day Styx River Farm will be open to the public.

We are located at 560 Marshland Road,Ouruhia, Christchurch. This is the second driveway on the right hand side after you go over the Styx River Bridge as you travel north towards Kaiapoi. You are welcome to drive down the drive and into the paddock marked rather than park on the roadside.

Any member of the public is invited to come along and experience the charm of the wonderful alpaca. But please be warned that they will steal your heart!!

There will be opportunities to talk to farmers/breeders about alpacas both as pets and breeding livestock.

There will be a sales table with beautiful handmade baby wear which has been made in New Zealand from New Zealand alpaca fibre. Also for sale there will be snuggly alpaca beannies for adults and children. Just in time for the ski season! Come and feel softness and warmth of alpaca clothing.

Look out for the sign on the footpath.

Tarragon: Reserve Champion Fleece

Once again Styx River Tarragon impresses the judges being awarded Reserve Champion for the Intermediate Male Fleece White/Light Fawn at the Canterbury Royal A&P Show 2008. His fleece score was 3rd out of 51 entries and only 3 points lower than the Supreme Champion. Tarragon's show credits now include 6 broad ribbons. We are very proud to announce the safe arrival of Styx River Andante. 10 kg solid white female! Mother and baby both well. A lovely half sister for Aria who attended the birth and assisted with baby cleaning duties! After all the hard work was over it was time to laze around in the sun.

Creative Fibre Competition Winner NZ Alpaca Conference 2008 Print E-mail

 

QUALITY RECOGNISED Once again the quality of our hand made pure NZ alpaca fibre baby clothes is recognised and appreciated by the judges. We are winners in the Baby & Nursery section of the NZ Alpaca Conference 2008.

 STYX RIVER ROSEMARY 1st Placing in 9 - 12 month brown female at Ashburton A&P. Rosemary is carrying uniformity of style with good alignment throughout her fleece. She has a soft handle and good lustre. Her dam is Gilldene Thyme and her sire is ILR Patagonia’s Maipo - American Junior Black Champion 2005 imported by NZ Southern Alpacas. We have high hopes that Rosemary will give us our first black cria!
